Xiphidium caeruleum is a herbaceous plant with creeping rhizomes. It has narrow, linear leaves arranged in a fan shape that gracfully bends to form a fountain like structure. It produces small, egg-shaped flower buds that give rise to tubular flowers which tend to hang doen and open slightly at the tip. It performs well in semi-shade.
